Quilt Project – Large CQ

May 09, 2008

Well I’ve managed to photograph the beginnings of my newest project. I’m going to hand sew a quilt for my bed…I think it’s a bit ambitious but, with several quiet evenings on my hands, I’ll give it an honest effort!

Here is the fabric I bought after a couple of hours picking and choosing the colors

Here’s the first pic, of the first crazy quilt block, for the CQ bedspread I’m working on. Each center of the block will reflect the base color for that block, and will be surrounded by it’s co-ordinating colors. For example: The ‘red’ center block, in the picture below, will be surrounded by ‘tans’ and ‘reds’. If it were ‘blue’ in the center, it would be surrounded by ‘blues’ and ‘greens’ (I use the color names in ‘…’ as a representation of the color groups only). There will be 16 blocks with four color groups, and five colors in each group.

Each block will alternate to create a random look, while also keeping a planned geometrical feel. This is because I share my bed…LOL and Hubbie wasn’t altogether sold on the idea of having an entirely crazy ‘crazy quilt’ on our bed!!

I’m sewing on a 22″x22″ muslin foundation, with the finished CQ work to be 15″x15″. There will be a 2.5″ border around each block.

Yay! I finished the first CQ block and I’m on to another color…

15×15 CQ block one!!

Beginnings of the next block…my camera does NOT do justice to the colors!!!

The greens should look a little brighter…

This one is a bit better…
